Money - The Last Taboo
Why does it seem so difficult for so many people to talk about money? This month's article on entrepreneur.com focuses on the delicate subject of clear and direct money communications. Learn why money is often cited as a number one reason for divorce, both in personal and business partnerships.

More about The Last Taboo...

Of Mentors, Coaches, and Advisors
There seems to be a bit of confusion about what it means to have a coach, mentor or an advisor. Some people use these terms to mean the same thing. Let's clear things up as they typically do not function the same way or have the same purpose.

A mentor is someone at a higher level in the company who assists you to attain what they have already achieved. Mentoring is project-specific towards a higher level of functioning within a corporation. Either you ask a person to mentor you or they are assigned to do so by the mentoring program in their company.

Everyone seems to understand what it means to have a sports coach. The term Life Coach has been used to describe the same function, only for your life. Like sports, there are some specialties such as career coach, transition coach, marketing coach and business coach, to name only a few. Each has its unique style and particular methods of helping you to achieve your goals. While a coach and advisor may be similar, there is a different flavor to having an advisor.

An advisor is distinct from a coach in that they are more likely to guide and direct you when you are off-course. An advisor, like a head coach, knows the whole picture; both your internal functioning (including your beliefs and stress triggers,) as well as your intentions and goals. They will tell you quite clearly if an old negative pattern grabs hold just when you are on the cusp of success. An advisor also coaches, but with a different style and background.

Some tips in selecting a coach/advisor
Selecting a coach or an advisor is a very personal decision which often relies on a "gut" connection. However, you might want to connect your gut instinct with some of the tips below:

  • Does this person have their own advisor/coach to which they are paying a fee? The importance of a person walking their talk cannot be stressed strongly enough - doing for themselves what they believe works for other people.
  • How long have they been an advisor/coach? Experience does count when looking for a person who can cut to the chase and assist you to live the life you desire.
  • Have they developed their own methods or are they using someone else's model and making it fit all their clients? There are many certification programs available that "train" advisors/coaches. If your company is paying for the fees, it may be important that your advisor/coach has one of these certifications. But for most people, the certificate isn't as important as the advisor/coach's commitment and creativity.
  • Why did this person become an advisor/coach? Understanding the motivation for being an advisor/coach will give you some idea of the their passion and purpose in doing this type of work.
Just remember that every million-dollar athlete has a staff of coaches. If you want to be a million dollar player in the "Game of Your Life," consider making a commitment to having an advisor/coach in your corner.

Closing for the Gold" Launched
On Wednesday, May 23rd, the newest addition to the Wealth & Wisdom Seminar programs was introduced in Carlsbad, CA. It received overwhelming reviews from the audience! This innovative sales training program is the product of over five years of coaching entrepreneurs to close deals quickly and effectively without discounting their services or product.

Asking for the order, discussing money early in the sales process, or even finding out if there are funds allocated sends sales people into an unconscious fear pattern. This fear is most often based on past experiences and beliefs about money. "Closing for the Gold" hits these fears head-on and allows sales people to go Over-the-Edge in production.

The program is available for groups of 6 or more commissioned-based sales professionals. It is custom-designed in a half-day or full-day format. Be sure to check out the this program at "Closing for the Gold".
